SUNNYVALE, Calif., Jan. 3, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Vidtel today announced the appointment of videoconferencing industry veteran Brian Coulter as its VP of Sales. For more than two decades, Coulter has been at the forefront of video conferencing and telecom industries, leading business development organizations at Alcatel-Lucent, BT/Ribbit and at industry leader Polycom.  Coulter's experience as a business development executive in the VoIP, video conferencing and unified communications industries brings to Vidtel a unique blend of skills. Coulter has built successful channel sales in early stage companies, service providers and large enterprises.

From his experience during the earliest days of hardware-based bridging for multi-party conferencing, through his experience with cloud-based services at BT/Ribbit, Coulter has been an acute observer and participant in emerging trends. Coulter brings to Vidtel a comprehensive understanding of the industry ecosystem, from proprietary systems, IP networks, endpoint devices, leading videoconferencing video vendors and managed service providers to VoIP service providers.  Coulter earned a BA degree at Johns Hopkins University.

"Brian's unique background in sales, business development and service provider management, and in building channel sales organizations at early-stage and large companies will accelerate our market growth dramatically," said Vidtel CEO Scott Wharton. "His experience will help us scale our business, building upon our market momentum."

As business-centric applications are moving to the cloud, Coulter's vision is that the cloud is where videoconferencing belongs. "It's clear to me that cloud video conferencing is the next big trend and that Vidtel is in one of the strongest positions to capture that market," he said. "I'm excited to be back at the forefront of the video conferencing market and help scale an early stage business like Vidtel into a dominant market player."
